ChatGPT is OpenAI's conversational AI assistant, available free or via paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Education). It handles writing, coding, analysis, math, research, and multi-step tasks. The newest underlying model is GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI describes as their most capable release to date. It scores 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, and 100% on ExploitBench. It also leads on computer use, browser use, and software engineering benchmarks. Astra is rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users and is available via the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure, and AWS Bedrock.
Recent additions include the ability for ChatGPT to connect to healthcare sources and health records, announced September 1, 2026. The model lineup has moved quickly through GPT-5.4, GPT-5.5, GPT-5.6, and now GPT-6 Astra. For teams and companies, there are dedicated tiers: ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Education, each with admin controls and data privacy options.
The free tier still exists with access to older models. Paid plans get the latest models, higher usage limits, and features like advanced data analysis, image generation, and web browsing. Developers can access models through the API with per-token pricing.
